IT STINGS…
I entered the compartment
from Bhojo and sat down. I heard a horn and it was time for me to leave the
place. Wandering here and there, looking out from my window saw a beautiful
site. Something went wrong, I felt little awkward, it was a difficult situation
for me. I went to the wash room. Shocked to see, no water, no mug and neatness
can’t be explained. For a minute I was stuck. I returned back to my seat.
I reached Guwahati the next morning.
I walked down the station
and looked all around. Within few seconds my 100-watt smile turn into a fused
bulb. I could see only the worst face of the station. The tracks were filled
with human excreta instead of stones. Rats made their home and ate the waste.
The pipe between the tracks were broken and water was flowing continuously.
Beggars and handicapped children with their small plate.
I saw a TTE, came near
and he gave me a paper.
At first my sight went to
the name plate on his chest written Raghu Ram Rajput. The paper was to mark our
opinion about the cleanliness of the station and compartments. I asked him why
an opinion should be given as he can see the condition of the station. He only said
two sentences to me in Hindi ‘hum iss
railway meh kam karkke bees sal huve aur yaham ke halat kabhi badalne vala
nahi’ ‘aadmi ko sudharna honga ya Sarkar ko’. [He has been working for 20 years
and this situation is not going to change. Human or government has to change].
Anyway I marked it and he
went for his duty.
I am still thinking that who
have to change, the government policies or we humans……
